If you have crossflow cooling towers, you can actually increase the cooling efficiency.  Air Solution Company’s Cottonwood Filter Screens increase the evaporative capacity of the Fill, reducing water temperature at the basin by 1 to 2 degrees Fahrenheit beyond its original design temperature.  So, what’s the big upside of this?  For every 1° F increase or decrease in leaving water temperature from your towers and entering the chiller(s) effects the head-pressure and results in is a 2%  in energy savings or additional cost for every degree.  Keeping head-pressure down, especially during high ambient days in the summer, contributes to high head pressure that can lead to capacity loss and surging, which is not good for your chillers.  This translates into a significant reduction/elimination in downtime, lost productivity and energy savings.
